Seville, April 03, 2025.- The Seville Chamber of Commerce has organized the meeting ‘The Future of Logistics: AI, Automation and Sustainability’, in the framework of the project Interreg POCTEP called ‘Nexomar’ that coordinates the Andalusian Council of Chambers of Commerce, and co-funded by the EU with the aim of boosting the competitiveness and internationalization of the companies related to the activity in the port of Alentejo, Algarve and Andalusia.
The meeting was held in the space Exploraterra.
The act has been particularly targeted at the application of tools related to the artificial intelligence applied to the transport of goods, as well as the innovation and automation of logistics companies, promoting sustainability through the application of advanced technologies.
In the meeting participated Francisco Herrero, president of the Chamber of Commerce and the chairman of the Port Authority of Seville, Rafael Carmona. Also, have attended the project partners of Portugal and Andalusia, industry experts, who have shared their knowledge and perspectives in different presentations and panel discussion, and more than 90 companies that meetings have been held B2B.
In the words of Francisco Herrero during the opening, “this meeting serves to deepen in how emerging technologies, optimize processes, and improve the competitiveness, and how sustainability can be effectively integrated into the business strategies”. In this sense, he added Smith, “the collaboration between the public and private sector is essential for the development of projects that allow for the consolidation of the companies through the incorporation of cutting edge tools, such as those related to Artificial Intelligence.”
For his part, Rafael Carmona has indicated that technologies such as AI and Big Data to automate processes which get optimized routes or reduce time, in addition to improve the traceability of goods. During his speech, the chairman of the Port Authority of Seville has been rated the degree of progress of the Digitalization Plan of the Port of Seville with more than 20 strategic projects implemented and an investment, to date, of more than 3 million euros.
In addition, Carmona has announced that “in the next few years the Plan of Scanning will be reinforced by the european project PRISM, which will transform the way in which shared data ecosystem port with the design of a modern Port Community System; and Guadaltwin, the digital twin of the Guadalquivir river which integrate machine learning technologies and artificial intelligence”. In total, PRISM will entail an investment of more than 10 million euros, co-financed by the European Union through the mechanism CEF; and Guadaltwin will have more than 6 millions of euros of investment co-financed through the line of Development of the Innovation from the Demand for the Public procurement of Innovation.
Nexomar is a project aimed at boosting the activity logistics maritime through the empowerment of the organizational capabilities and technology of the logistics system in the environments port of Alentejo, Algarve and Andalusia to the promotion of internationalisation and increased presence of foreign companies in the areas of logistics as of the producing companies.
